Musical Links

This list is not intended to be extensive. It is rather geared more to providing an insight into individuals, groups and organisations who may have played some of Tom Birkett's compositions and arrangements.

Mainly Military

This is the site of Major Richard Powell. Richard's site is a wee insight into an accomplished and well respected musician, organiser, raconteur... the list goes on and on. One of his many honours is having a march dedicated to him by Tom Birkett. As he once told me the piece, Major Powell, is simple and cheerful, much like the mand himself!

Corps of Drums Society

This contains some very useful sources. The COD have a very good monthly publication, Drummers Call, which is free to members. The annual subscription is a steal at £10.

Hamilton Flute Band

This is a Senior Grade 1 band rom Northern Ireland. This is an informative site that tells the history of this fine Londonderry outfit. This site also contains some music. So, no excuses, get yourself on over to cyber Londonderry and have a listen.

Mourne Young Defenders

This is a marching Corps of Drums from County Down, Northern Ireland. The band specialises in military marches and are known for their very tight drumming and full use of stick lifting and backsticking to increase their entertainment value. The site also features several tunes

Middlesex County Volunteers

This is a truly superb fife and drum band from Massachusetts. The band is run by a husband and wife team. Their use of Swiss drumming is awesome.

Fife & Drum Webring

This chatty group has several good sources and contacts for bands and was created by Jeff Donsbach of the Middlesex County Volunteers.
